It enables users to send S/MIME messages over SSL enabled SMTP to any other trusted user that is NwHIN Direct enabled user. All of the public key discovery and encryption are done on the gateway and are transparent to the end user. The service can be accessed from any SMTP client that supports SSL (Outlook, Thunderbird, or gMail, to name a few). You can also send mail from Andoid, iPad, or iPhones using the built in mail client or your favorite one from the App Store.
